Everyone has their own methodology for doing research. If you’re a grad student you probably work through educational databases at your online university library, do web research, and spend time at the library. There are some additional ways to do research leveraging the power of Google.
Google Scholar – If you don’t have access to a university library, Google Scholar provides a way to search for scholarly literature. Here you can find peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, articles, universities, etc.
As with other Google search features, you’ll get relevant research because Google sorts the articles by weighing the full text, author, and publication and how often the piee has been cited in other literature. Very cool – nearly as good as an educational database but downside is that you often can’t get the full text. http://scholar.google.com/
Google Alerts- you can subscribe to any search term and get alerts via email. You can get comprehensive alerts, news, blogs, groups, web, etc. as often as you request (as they happen, weekly, daily). So if you’re researching “informal learning” you can set an alert to monitor the topic. http://www.google.com/alerts
