My colleague, Gary Woodill, had the opportunity to write for Stephen Downes‘ OLDaily in the month of July. For those of you not familiar, OLDaily – short for Online Learning Daily – is a daily newsletter, with commentary, about significant news in the online learning field. Stephen Downes produces the newsletter as a part of his work at National Research Council Canada (read more about the newsletter here). I won’t say much more about OLDaily other than it is a great service to the industry and you should consider subscribing (if you don’t already).
Gary was inspired by OLDaily and suggested there was a need for a corporate workplace learning-specific newsletter similar to OLDaily. He describes the complementary nature of Workplace Learning Today in the first post:
Stephen covers and comments on many topics, including school-based and post-secondary education, learning technologies, personal learning, philosophy of learning, and the politics of the learning industry and government policies. He rarely writes about corporate training, although he is often critical of corporations. We don’t see ourselves being competitive with Stephen’s important contributions, but complementary.
This is a group effort to provide readers with a daily summary of news, events, commentary, and research on all aspects of workplace learning, including training and development, performance support, job aids, learning technologies, talent management, organizational learning, and adult education. We think that there is a need for such a publication to cover the changing world of workplace learning. We will be scanning blogs, web pages, magazines and other news sources, and welcome suggestions for new sources that we might not know about.
So, Brandon Hall Research’s Workplace Learning Today was born and launched today. I certainly hope you’ll consider subscribing. (Also, if you’re a corporate blogger, please check the blogroll page for your blog and if it is not listed, please consider adding it).

Hi Janet,
I welcome the idea of the Workplace Learning Today concept. Downes prolific posting is a tough act to match but best of luck with it.
Take a look at my blog – Lars is Learning – I hope you’ll include in your Blogroll.

Thanks Lars. I will certainly add your blog to the blogroll. I don’t think anyone can match Stephen Downes. We just hope to provide comprehensive coverage and commentary specific to workplace learning. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Janet,
A great edition to my learning resources and not before time. Whilst I also agree that Stephen is a hard act to follow, I still like to think that there is an opportunity to create a pragmatic corporate viewpoint as the academic viewpoint can lack practical application in the short term. (my opinion only of course.
Please feel free to add my blog! (See submitted website address)

Hi Rob.
Thanks for the comment and I’ll get your blog on the blogroll.
Janet, this sounds like an idea with a lot of potential. I like the workplace learning focus — different enough from other collections, specific enough to not need much explaining in advance.
